Europe’s Flagship AI Event
On June 16, 2025, Gdańsk hosted the 11th edition of the European AI Forum (EAIF) under the patronage of the Polish EU Presidency. As the umbrella organization for national AI associations, the EAIF represents over 3,000 members, making it the largest AI organization in Europe. This flagship conference brought together decision-makers, government ministers, European Commission representatives, and industry leaders from across the continent.
Key Themes: Navigating Regulation and Infrastructure
The 2025 forum focused heavily on shaping Europe’s AI future and strengthening its digital sovereignty. Attendees engaged in critical discussions surrounding:
- The EU AI Act Implementation: Addressing the practical challenges of compliance, the need for clear standards, and simplified regulatory approaches, particularly for startups and SMEs.
- Building AI Infrastructure: Emphasizing the urgency of deploying European-owned computing power, including AI Gigafactories and data centers, while streamlining funding and permitting processes.
- Open-Source AI: Highlighting why open-source development is essential for Europe’s technological sovereignty and economic growth.
- Digital Sovereignty: Acknowledging that true sovereignty requires not just hardware, but a robust ecosystem of AI models, talent, and data.
Highlighting the National Ecosystem and Talent
Beyond policy, the event showcased concrete examples of European AI in action. A dedicated “Polish Corner” highlighted Poland’s national AI strategy and ecosystem, featuring projects like the open-source Polish LLM “Bielik”. The forum also strongly underscored the importance of talent development, upskilling, and fostering community-driven initiatives to ensure Europe remains globally competitive in the AI landscape.
